Stephen Craven posted to Michael Smitham 5 hours ago A review of the Fortunes concert at the Blackfriars theatre Boston on the 8th March 2014. Having last seen the Band do a great opening for the Sixties Gold tour before Christmas we decided to see a full concert instead of the half hour set of hits on these tours. It was a journey that took us from the Concert for Bangladesh to the Bay of Naples with some nice reminisces and some great music from the Fortunes hits and past bands ranging from the Love Affair to Badfinger via Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas. Its unusual to get a band that can all take the lead vocals and the Band maintained a high standard throughout the evening and were all very personable when meeting the fans during the interval and at the end of the show. In a night of high quality singing and playing the highlights for me were Bobs Badfinger segments, Michaels tribute to Bobby Vee and version of Johnny B Goode, Glenns Bringing on back the good times and Eddies Bad to me which the audience joined in on the opening. As we all get older Bobs sad tale about Badfinger and Michaels stool remind us sadly that these events wont go on forever so I would urge fans of the Fortunes and the 60s and 70s music genre to get along and see the Band whilst you can as the price was very reasonable and the quality of the performance worth far more !!!! The two and a half hour 30 song set passed far too quickly as both the band and audience enjoyed themselves and all to soon it was time for the 90 mile journey home which to my surprise wasnt the longest as some fans had come further !!! I bought the CD signed by the band and will be back to see them again both solo and on this years 60s Gold tour Stephen Craven.
