Stephen Fry wrote an open letter to the Olympic Committee regarding the Olympic Games that are supposed to take place in Russia in 2014, and the recent discriminating laws the country passed against the LGBT community. As most of you probably know, I am a big winter sports fan, and I look forward to the Winter Olympics every time. I am not okay with the Olympics being held in a country that threatens international gay athletes that they will not be safe while residing in Russia. I am not okay with discrimination of this minority. I am not okay with the people in charge who turn a blind eye to the trouble, just because of money issues. I am not okay with the fact that the press is not talking about this as much as it should be. I understand the difficulty of moving the Games to another place. I understand that might not be possible. But even so, I do think the IOC and the athletes themselves need to make a stand against the discrimination, violence and threats. If we decide to let the event happen, we will indirectly support the country and their laws. We need to make a stand, or suffer the consequences of what could potentially be the next holocaust.
