Stephen Mante-Anti writes and I love it, OK...... Now, I think I want to comment on the GJA Awards. I like the fact of an Association for Journalists...But, am worried the awards appear not to recognize originality and award hard work. Im a member but Im not in good standing. Im kind of not excited about the prospect of the Association. For example, what is creative about a court report, which is mainly based on facts? As an intern, it was the first news reporting lesson I got at The Mirror and Weekly Spectator as a school boy journalist. Seriously, how could the expose which resulted in the setting up of the Presidential Commission of inquiry into the Black Stars World cup Wahala not even get a recognition? How is it that the Gyeeda, SUBA, tins, did not even qualify for a mention? What go into these awards? Seriously, I think we need a new Journalism awards we can respect because selection would be scientific and merit based. I really think we must shake this GJA thing! Weve accepted their type of awards for far too long. As for Radio and TV personality Awards, the less said the better... Same people are nominated every year.... peer based....
