Steps to ease Mapusa traffic jams Finally there is some good news for commuters in Mapusa town as the traffic jam at the Mapusa court junction will be a thing of the past. The Mapusa municipality has taken up the work of road widening at this junction. There are always traffic jams at the Mapusa court junction as it is used by many commuters. Even though traffic signals have been installed and police personnel are posted to regulate the flow of traffic, traffic snarl-ups are very common especially during office hours and school hours. The municipality has finally taken up the very important work of road widening to ease traffic congestion at the junction. The North Goa comunidade also allowed the demolition of their compound wall and gave land for road widening. The compound wall of the administrative building of the North Goa comunidade was touching the road (Mapusa-Duler). "Comunidade gave the NOC for the demolition of the compound wall and the road has been widened by 5 meters by taking in the compound wall. The new compound wall has been built," MMC chairperson Sudhir Kandolkar, said. This road is used by college students, as bypass to the national highway, to enter the Mapusa city and to go towards Duler and Karaswada. Since the roads are narrow they cannot handle the presure of so many vehicles causing traffic snarl-ups. Especially, vehicles coming towards Mapusa from Karaswada and Duler face problems because there is a slope. As the buses stop at this junction for passengers to board and alight, it adds to the traffic jam worsening the situation. The road has also been widened from the Duler side so that buses can be stopped on this widened stretch. "The road will be widened from all four sides, widening will be taken up from the court side by clearing the kiosk and cutting the mango tree, the tree owner has given the NOC," Sudhir Kandolkar said.
