Steve Hill: November 3 Knock, Knock, Knock Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 This scripture is one of the most quoted texts from the Bible by those involved in evangelism. To the sinner, we will say, “Jesus is standing at the door of your heart. He is knocking and wants to come in. Won’t you open the door and let Him fellowship with you?” In personal evangelism, I have used this passage over and over again. But there are also other ways that Jesus chooses to get our attention. Andrew Bonar, probably the closest friend of Robert Murray McCheyne, was well aware of the methods Jesus will use to make us aware of His presence: How does He knock? By His word; His warnings; His invitations. By providences; by trials; by comforts; by sorrows; by joys; by family troubles and national calamities; by wars at home or abroad; by the confusions and distresses of nations; by the changes of the year. By His Holy Spirit ever working, ever striving. There’s another crucial point that must be heeded, that I find rarely mentioned by teachers of the Word. The Bible says that Jesus is standing at the door, not sitting. To stand signifies quick mobility. It means He could turn away at any moment. He hasn’t settled down and pitched a tent at our doorstep. He is knocking, patiently, but not forever. If you are involved in personal evangelism, please inform those who are away from God that Jesus’ presence at the door does not mean He will remain there forever. We must respond now. We must open the door and let Him in. 2 Kings 16; Titus 2; Hosea 9; Psalms 126–128 Steve Hill Ministries | P.O. Box 612288, Dallas, TX 75261 | 817-849-8773 Forward email
