Steve Newbauer US Navy Gearing Class Destroyers The Ballad of the FRAMs (sung or spoken to the tune of The Ballad of the Green Berets) This was written by one of the officers on the Bausell DD-845 while I served aboard her. I can no longer remember which officer it was however. Here also is a video of an instrumental version of the Green Berets ballad. Fighting sailors of the sea Fram destroyermen are we 300 men, with guns and speed We are the greyhounds of the sea, With twin screws, and mighty steam, Boiler power that is a dream Other ships with less than two Can only guess what a FRAM can do. Four guns on deck, in mounts of two When others tried the FRAMs came through, Gunfire support, the troopers cried, And the job was done, when the FRAMs arrived. Among the FRAMs, Bausell is best, We have fought, throughout the West, Korean snows and Vietnam broil For Mayaquez and Taiwan soil, Now were old, but ready still, Great our age but strong our will, 30 years through strife and hell, Weve done the job and done it well, So give twin screws, to my sons ship, Make her strong and make her quick, Give her guns and missiles too, and like the FRAMs she will come through. youtu.be/XbAhx8uetpI Ballad of the Green Berets Tribute Song for the Green Beret Special Forces of the United States youtube
