Under mostly clear skies, temperatures are unseasonably cool ranging from 37° at Table Rock and Brindletown to 38° at Old Fort and Marion to 40° at the Foothills AP to 43.7° at Burke Weather HQ in Valdese and 44° at Hickory Regional. I wouldnt be surprised if there were some patchy frost, especially in the higher elevations, around Lake James and parts of McDowell County. Our clear skies this morning will give way to clouds and scattered showers this afternoon with the best concentration of rain over the higher elevations. A disturbance over eastern Arkansas and western Tennessee is moving steadily in our direction. Even though it may weaken a little by the time it gets into our counties there will still be enough energy left for some rains and gusty winds later today. Cloudy skies may hold temperatures up a little tonight as another disturbance takes shape to our southwest Sunday and spreads additional scattered showers into the area Sunday afternoon. Sunday will be unseasonably cool with mid 60s in the afternoon. This is another system like the ones that plagued us this past winter. By Monday we should see moderating temperatures and more sunshine. Highs Monday may only reach the low 70s but by Wednesday and Thursday could again be in the mid and upper 80s. Also by Thursday, another front begins to drop southward giving us the threat of thunderstorms next Friday.
