Stevenson fulfills Florida Resign to Run Requirement Following Florida law, submits resignation for St. Johns County Commission (St. Augustine) St. Johns’ County Commissioner Cyndi Stevenson today submitted her irrevocable notice of resignation to both Vicky Oakes, St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections and Governor Rick Scott. “It has been a unique honor for me to serve the citizens of St. Johns County for the past ten years as their County Commissioner. The decision to run for the open House District 17 seat was not one that I made in haste, but I know that more than ever we need experienced, reasonable representation in Tallahassee in order to grow our economy, enhance the incredible schools that we have and preserve our wonderful quality of life,” said Stevenson. “Tallahassee is no place for on the job training and the experience that I have gained as a County Commissioner and CPA have prepared me to hit the ground running.” Per Section 99.012(3) of the Florida Statutes, an officer of a county government must submit their resignation 10 days prior to qualifying commencing for another office. The Division of Elections has set qualifying for the Special Election for House District 17 to commence at 8:00 AM December 1 and close at Noon December 2. As there are less than two years left on the Commissioner Stevenson’s term, the Governor will appoint a replacement and therefore no extra cost will be incurred by the county to fill the seat. -30- Cyndi Stevenson is a native Floridian and was first elected to the St. Johns County Commission in 2004 and subsequently reelected in 2008 and 2012. She serves in District 1. She is a CPA and auditor and a 1981 graduate of Stetson University with BBA in Accounting. She has served as Early Learning Coalition, Board Officer /Treasurer, Chair, St. Johns County Public Safety Coordinating Council, Member, Historic Resource Review Council, Member of the Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council, Trustee, Florida Association of Counties Trust, Member, Recreation Advisory Board, Member, Intergovernmental Relations Committee, Chair, St. Johns River Alliance and Leadership Florida. Cyndi and her husband of over 30 years, Henry have two sons Paul and Wes who are both graduates of the University of Florida. The Stevensons attend Switzerland Community Church.
