Stevie went to Tails of the Adirondacks to work on some obedience - TopicsExpress

Stevie went to Tails of the Adirondacks to work on some obedience in public. When there were no other customers in the store we practiced a little distance and duration. We would not be able to do this with too much distraction just yet because she is still learning and developing impulse control. Walking away and out of sight is plenty enough of a distraction for her at this point in time to test her staying put. There are 3 Ds to real world training that you have to build upon both separately and individually to see success. Distance Distraction Duration Take caution not too add too much of one or another at a time. Build them up separately and then slowly combine them. It can be just as hard for your dog to hold a Down/stay when you walk away 10 feet for 2 minutes as holding a down/stay for 30 seconds around intense distractions. Practice and make sure you set yourself and your dog up for success.
