Sticky armpit (Axilla) region? One good look at the anatomy pic - TopicsExpress

Sticky armpit (Axilla) region? One good look at the anatomy pic shows the spiral arrangement of many tissues involved in overhead movement. The transverse plane is often missed in assessment/application. Looking at anatomy, just envision these tissues translating in the transverse plane to wind-up for optimal shoulder joint motion/strength! It is well excepted, we must have transverse plane soft tissue transformation for any appreciable function when reaching overhead. In addition, lets not forget the fact that all tissues connect at some level. Application... Here my lovely better half demonstrates a counter rotation with her torso while I assess her right glenohumeral joint/tissue region. Because she is supine and rotated as opposed to just supine, there is much more tension contribution. Simply changing position and thus tension contribution can lead to a different shoulder joint/region analysis! Once assessed, its time to address. Here I have Brandi contract her right leg into her left hand and her right arm (with rotational emphasis) into my hands to test/address force threshold. In between sets of her contracting, I can add some soft tissue techniques to assist in hydrating the overly dense regions identified. Take home...focus on the subtleness of rotation! This is a great follow up to the last post. Use your creativity to make it individual, there are many ways to tweak this. As Dr. Gary Gray taught me years ago...use the tool, dont let the tool use you :-).
