Still Alice & The Skeleton Twins Movie Review Still Alice Still Alice is a fantastic movie, but could’ve easily been a sappy melodramatic mess, if it weren’t for the superb acting and really clever writing. Sure this film isn’t original, but it’s still very well written and emotional effective. Still Alice is about a woman named Alice Howard, who’s a happily married woman with three grown children. She’s also a linguistics professor who cares a lot about her job and her own mind because one of the best things about Alice is her intellect. Unfortunately she gets diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimers Disease and she slowly starts losing her intelligence and even her own voice. The film is mainly about Alice struggling to connect to who she once was, which makes this film both heartbreaking and inspiring. Still Alice stars Julianne Moore as the main character Alice Howard and it co-stars Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth and Hunter Parrish. The film was directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland and it was written by Lisa Genova, who also wrote the Still Alice novel. This film was great mostly because of Lisa Genova and it’s not just because she wrote the book that this movie is based off of, but it’s also because she wrote this films screenplay and I have to say this film had a very good screenplay. The writing in this movie was really captivating and even though it lacked in originality there was still so much passion and heart that went into this screenplay. Plus these characters in the movie were all great three dimensional characters. Alec Baldwin plays the husband in the film and he’s both a likeable and pretty relatable character and Alec Baldwin does a great job playing the role. Julianne Moore of course stole the show because her performance as Alice Howard was just mesmerizing. This is hands down the best piece of acting I’ve ever seen Julianne Moore do and I’ve seen her play some really good roles throughout her career, but none were as compelling and emotional as her role in this movie. Now as for Kristen Stewart and Kate Bosworth, they were both very well written characters, but since these two actresses are terrible they didn’t do their characters any justice. Now that being said, Kristen Stewart and Kate Bosworth weren’t horrible in this movie, they weren’t great or anything, but thanks to good direction their performances were actually average. The main thing people should realize though is that you’re watching this movie mostly because of Julianne Moore because she makes this entire movie. Plus you’re watching this movie because it has a very true and tragic story to it and you learn a lot about family and life while watching this film. I’m sure in less capable hands this movie could’ve sucked, but the directors knew what they were doing and the writer knew what she was doing and they chose a fantastic leading actress to play in this movie. Almost everything in this movie worked, sure they should’ve chose two other actresses to play the daughters in this movie, but oh well. This movie still worked and I found it very effective. I would highly recommend it. 8.2/10 The Skeleton Twins The Skeleton Twins looked like a really good movie, but the fact it was about twins made it even more interesting because I myself am a twin. I’m not always into movies about families, but if I can relate a lot to it I can enjoy it more. So could I relate to this movie? Yes! This movie was very relatable and enjoyable to watch. This film is about two twins named Maggie and Milo, who both feel theyre at the end of their ropes, but an unexpected reunion forces them to confront why their lives went so wrong. As the twins reconnect, they realize the key to fixing their lives may just lie in repairing their relationship. Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader star in this movie as the twins, Maggie and Milo. Now these two had unbelievably good chemistry, which shouldn’t come as a big shock because these two are both good actors in movies and are both hilarious on Saturday Night Live. It was good seeing Kristen Wiig playing a great role again, I know she’s a very talented actress, but like Mellissa McCarthy she’s been picking a lot of shitty roles lately, but thankfully she picked a role like this because she was great in this movie. Her character is pretty unlikeable at times, but also kind of sympathetic. Now, Bill Hader’s character, Milo, he was a sympathetic character. I don’t want to spoil anything about this movie, but both of these characters go through a lot and some things they do are strange, but also very funny. This films biggest strength is on these two leads because they’re both really good in this movie and they have great chemistry with each other. Luke Wilson and Ty Burrell are also in the movie and they’re both very good in the film as well. I liked that they didn’t make Luke Wilson’s character a clichéd asshole husband character; they actually made him the most likeable character in the movie. Now this is also thanks to good writing and direction. Craig Johnson wrote and directed this film and he did a fantastic job. He wrote the characters very well and he put in some good, witty and smart dialogue in the film. The story was also very well told and really well executed, which is thanks to wonderful direction. The film also had a great climax that was both powerful and satisfying. It sucks that not a lot of people saw this movie because it didn’t go to many theaters, but that’s fine because it’s coming out to buy in a few weeks, so I suggest you rent it or buy it because it’s worth every penny. Like I said I’m a twin, so I could relate a lot to this movie, which is probably why I’m giving this movie a really high rating. 8.7/10
