Still at the Turkish border with Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan). In the morning I ran into a group of Rojava men who wanted to ho back to Rojava to protect their house and belonings and to fight IS. A minibus took them to the border, we walked the last bit, we talked about their situation and suddenly a teargas attack started. A heavy one, and we were close. Everybody ran into the fields, there was so much teargad. Some people have a car, I jumped in one as it stopped shortly, we drove away quickly. In the car two women of the peace group Peace mothers from Amed Diyarbakir. And a very old man, wearing a nurse thingy to protect himself against the teargas. He had tears in his eyes, I took a pic and he said: This is what they do to Kurds, evrrywhere, Irak, Iran, Syria, Turkey!. Then he put his hand before his eyes and really dtarted crying. In the afternoon I visited many places where refugees stay in Suruç village. Dramatic. The municipality folks (in kurdish hands) work their asses off but they get no state help and they have no money, so there is a lack of everything. Dont believe the number of 130,000 refugees. Its crap. Erdogan has anbagenda. He is in NYC pleaying for a buffer zone. The less Kurds in Syrian Kurdistan, the better, even if he uses made up statistics. Which UN person is gonna come and check? They take the Turkish state figures for granted.
