Still in memory of slain Akwa Ibom citizens On behalf of my humble self and family members of Akwa Ibom heroes who were slain during the Nigerian Civil War and buried at Ibom connection, Uyo, I most sincerely appreciate Akwa Ibom state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for organising a memorial service today, Sunday, April 6, 2014 in honour of these illustrious sons of the state. Let me most profoundly thank the General Overseer and Founder of Believers Assembly Church, Uyo, Prelate Isaiah Isong for his heart-touching homily at the event which took place at Ibom Hall grounds. Though, I was not physically present at the event due to personal reasons, I want to say that going by the preaching of Isaiah Isong which I watched through a live telecast, it will only be fair and equitable for the state government to also organise a similar memorial service in honour of Akwa Ibom people who were slain, killed, assassinated or murdered during and after the 2011 general election in the state. The mention of the slain paramount ruler of Nsit Ubium, Edidem Robert James Obot by the preacher in his homily, to me is a stern warning to the government that the land can only be cleansed when a similar event is put together in honour of those who were murdered in cold blood in the state by unknown gunmen in 2011. I also add that todays event marks the beginning of seeking attornment for our state and cleansing of our land, however, I advocate that the process is inconclusive until a similar memorial service is held in honour of all the 2011 falling heroes/heroines of Akwa Ibom state. It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan set up a post-2011 election violence in the country and Akwa Ibom was one of the states listed for visit by the panel, which it did, but up till today, the panel has not make its White paper public. While families of those who lost their lives are still living in the pains and sad memories of the 2011 election. I rest my case. Otuekong Franklyn Isong Public affairs analyst
