Stock Taking THREATS I can state without any scientific research that the biggest threat that faced many of us across the globe was economic downturn and its effects. Our nations were hurt, our companies were hurt, our churches were hurt, our families were hurt and personally we felt the pinch in our bones. For instance, in Ghana, mining company Newmont laid off hundreds of people. One major threat no one will ever forget is the electricity rationing. It distorted plans and caused harm to lives and properties. I have learnt that it is not what happens to you but how we respond to what happens to us that determine the outcome of our lives. Thus, the focus of this write-up is not to enumerate the mirage of global problems and identify who caused them. I believe that in spite of threats, we can fight on and succeed with our dreams. Let me ask you gently: how did you deal with the external threats to your goals and plans? I know many of us gave up our well-thought plans and others found new ways of achieving them. One man who inspires me so much is Booker T. Washington. Reading his autobiography years ago in the university, I learnt that you can be a slave and determine to build economic empowering institution that will attract the attention of the US president.
