Stockholm Sangeet Conference is Swedens largest festival dedicated to Indian classical music and dance. This year, the festivals eighth, is proud to present: -Sri Somnath Roy Group (India) North Indian tabla and sitar meet ghatam, one of the south Indian music traditions oldest instruments. The group is led by Sri Somnath Roy, one of the worlds foremost ghatam players. In the group is also Soumen Sarkar - tabla, Abhisek Mallik - sitar, Soumyajyoti Ghosh - bansuri, Shatadru Kabir - vocals -Abhijit Banerjee (India) Composer and one of the most sought-after tabla players of today. Besides being one of the top-ranking musicians within Indian classical music and having played with all of its legends, he strives to expand to borders of the genre thorugh different international co-operative projects, for example with Ry Cooder andTrilok Gurtu. -Sudeshna Bhattacharya (India/Norway) A student of the legendary Amjad Ali Khan, received early recognition for her skillful handling of the sarod, a north Indian fretless lute, and today she counts as one of the premier young performers around. -Kamal Sabri Khan (India) Kamal, who is the seventh generation of a distinguished family of traditional musicians, has demonstrated profound versatility in playing the Sarangi. Kamal was initiated and trained by his father, sarangi legend Ustad Sabri Khan, in the style of the Senia Gharana (school) of Rampur, Moradabad from the tender age of 5 years and very soon this child prodigy made waves in the musical world with his talent. Besides being an exellent soloist, his musical brilliance and talent as a seasoned accompanist gained immense popularity amongst eminent classical vocalists. -Yaa Devi (Sweden/France/Norway) The first-time performance of an excerpt from a one of a kind project featuring dancers from different classical Indian traditions to newly composed live music. A tribute to the life work of dancer, civil rights activist and icon Chandralekha. Artistic direction: Ulrika Larsen.
