Stockport was bombed in 1940 and 1941 (2 people were killed in Cheadle). German bomber was shot down & crew bailed out over the Cheadle Hulme area and taken prisoner. A number of V1 rockets also hit the area in 1944. The picture below shows a house in Aswood Stockport which was bombed Christmas Eve 1944. Children are also photographed sitting among the debris of a bombed out site, my great grandad was an ARP warden at the time & would often shout at the children because of the dangers around, many young boys would be seen with shrapnel in there pockets or bags, it was like a game of who could retrieve the best piece.
