Stop Further B’Haram Attacks, COAS Tells Special Forces The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, has directed the Special Forces to prevent the insurgents from perpetrating any further mayhem in the North-East. The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, quoted the COAS as having made the comment while speaking with officers of the Nigerian Army at Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri, on Wednesday. Minimah was said to have stopped over in Maiduguri during an operational tour to inspect deployment and troops disposition in the three states under emergency rule, Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. The Army Chief commended the efforts of the officers and soldiers of the Army in the ongoing operation and promised that all efforts would be made to equip them with tools required for the successful prosecution of the campaign against terrorism. The Army was also said to have warned against any “form of indiscipline or mishandling of equipment available for the operation at the moment.” Minimah said that all the trainings given to officers and soldiers were necessary now in the fight to curb the activities of insurgents in the mission area. Olukolade said that the COAS, who embarked on the tour in company with his Air Force counterpart, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, also visited the Military Hospital in Maiduguri where he interacted with soldiers wounded in the line of duty. The Army chief was also quoted has having directed the Commander of the Hospital, Brig.-Gen. Ike Okeke, to bring to his attention any case that “required referral treatment for further treatment anywhere in the world.” Olulukolade added that the two service chiefs also carried out a comprehensive aerial surveillance of the three states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe and inspected some locations in the area. Meanwhile, the Bishop of Methodist Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Owo, Rt. Reverend Solomon Adegbite, has called on the Federal Government to change its approach to the fight against members of Boko Haram Islamic sect. He said the new strategies should include the provision of employment for the jobless youths in the country. Punch
