Stopped by the office on the way to the trailhead, and my car - TopicsExpress

Stopped by the office on the way to the trailhead, and my car broke down on 5th Avenue, near the Westlake Mall. Todays stats: Activity undertaken in lieu of hiking: traffic cop AAA estimate of wait time for tow truck: 1-2 hours, but well put you down as high priority since you are blocking traffic. Actual wait time for tow truck: 3 hours. Names called while blocking traffic: Asshole (1x) Douchebag (2x) (Interestingly, I was called asshole while I was directing traffic, and both douchebags were shouted as I was leaning up against my car consuming the falafel sandwich I had brought for lunch at the lake.) Helpful suggestions shouted by passing motorists: Youre not supposed to park there! Hey, thats a ___________________ (make of car), __________________s arent supposed to break down like that! Number of Good Samaritans who offered to help: 7 (includes four cab drivers who offered to give me a jump or gas in exchange for cash). Number of police officers who stopped to help: 1 (helpful advice not to leave the vicinity of my car or it would be impounded). Long term injuries suffered: Traffic Cop Elbow (RSS) Self-medication expenses: $8.99 (pinot noir, on sale) Estimated time to clean vessel from which I consume self-medication: 0.0 seconds. (Who washes the bottle, anyway?) Weight loss: 6 lbs. (water) Ultimate distance hiked: 1.2 miles Elevation gain: negative 100 Silver linings: - the car didnt break down 14 miles up a logging road - new-found admiration for traffic police workers and their union - got some work in on my sunburn - no one sat next to me and my ice axe on the bus - got back 1.5 hours earlier than expected, permitting me additional time to accomplish necessary work (or, in the alternative, write my social media posts) - didnt put 100 miles on my car, thus extending the period before it breaks down. Er, wait ... /rbh #cantstopthebleeding
