Stories like this make you wonder about the man. makes you wonder what happened. Also makes you wonder what his diet consists of, as he doesnt appear to be famished. Why is it that we only think about helping those in need at Christmas, and Thanksgiving? What about the other 363 days? And who are the people in need…and what do they truly need? After living in New York City for years handing out change, dollars, and sometimes food, I came across a man that I handed a store bought ham and cheese sandwhich to, and he told me I dont like Ham. My guess is that his diet consisted of more liquid, than food. Id like to hear this mans story…Id like to know how he got where he is…and figure out how to get him back on track. I think he probably needs more guidance than he does turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and cranberries. The story says he doesnt have any family living nearby…if he had family living nearby would he still be homeless? Why doesnt his family have the ability to help him now? Or from afar? Dropping change in a cup, or buying a homeless person a sandwich is a quick fix. There isnt a universal solution to fixing the homeless problem as each individuals reason for ending up homeless is different. I dont mean to sound insensitive, but this local feel good story doesnt make me feel good at all.
