Storing hay: We buy hay in big boxes from Small Pet Select, KMS Hayloft and Oxbow and have been for several years. To store the hay, often for several months, the top is removed. Thats it. We still lose a good bit because it dries too much and breaks down into small pieces. Putting hay into airier containers is fine but may be not necessary, especially in larger quantities where more wastage is possible. Never give moldy or black hay. Never get hay wet, either. If you store your hay inside your house with A/C in the summer or otherwise control the humidity there should be no problem. (Thanks Toni).
