Storm Chasing in a Jet - Capturing Upper-atmospheric Lightning Extraordinary aerial footage of Sprites captured by Storm Chasers and Lightning researchers in the USA. Sprites are large-scale electrical discharges that occur high above thunderstorm clouds, or cumulonimbus, giving rise to a quite varied range of visual shapes flickering in the night sky. They are triggered by the discharges of positive lightning between an underlying thundercloud and the ground. What makes this footage even more extraordinary is that the researchers placed the same high speed camera in two Aeroplanes and captured the same sprite at different angles in astoundung detail to create a 3D look at the structure, transferring charge into the Ionosphere and to the edge of space, The bolts of lightning that create the sprites are so powerful they reverborate around the globe! Fascinating! The video is approx 12 minutes long. It may or may not play on your device or if its having trouble loading, search you tube for this tiltle Storm Chasing in a Jet - Capturing Upper-atmospheric Lightning. OR go to your PC to watch the footage, it is truly astounding and a must see -Chris. https://youtube/watch?v=vSCwiQWzMa0
