Storm Update - New Years day 2015 As expected any hope of storms is likely to be late, with only a slim chance. Moisture is the main issue. While Albion Park looks great at 26C with a 21C dew point, that moisture is very thin. By the time you get to Goulburn the dew point is 8C. Even on the coast the moisture is only about 1000-2000m deep, above that the air is very dry. However..and it is a big one, if a storm can get going it is likely to be a nice isolated one. Science Corner: Dew point is exactly what it says. It is the theoretical temperature that if we were the cool the air to, dew would start condensing on surfaces, as the air would be close to saturated with moisture. So at Albion Park at present if we could suddenly drop the temperature to 21C we would have dew. Humans tend to feel uncomfortable in high dew points as our sweat does not evaporate as readily and we tend to feel the heat.
