Story 1: The Nigerian High Commisioner had organised a series of trips by Nigerian celebrity actors to Nairobi. It was part of several meets to figure ways in which Nigeria Kenya and South Africa could join hands to make tv more valuable as an an economic export, in his words, to rival oil as was already happening in Nigeria. (Nigerian domination of art scene in Africa is not accidental, it is well thought out and supported by government). So in the evening we toured Nairobi. In a popular club, the bouncers quickly recognised the Naija screen throbs and quickly ushered them to a secluded VIP area so that people dont disturb you. The guys were aghast. a beg what do you mean VIP?. Well, very important people, they were told, and taken to the cordoned off hidden area. I dont understand Kenya oh said a Naija, having come a few times to Kenya and being shielded from common mwananchi. why should I stay away from the people yet they are de ones who watch me and make us stars? The people are the Very Important people, they make us stars. With many Abis and Na wa Ohs, they ordered their drinks to be taken back to common section, mingled with star struck fans. Laughed as Naija films were made fun off. the audience tells you the truth, whether you like it or not. It helps you improve they said, and signed autos as the floor tilted and everyone came to their table. On the way back, they said. see, the same person I talk to, when they go home, they will say put on XYZs film, aaah yes, see....I was with him today and look I even took a selfie with him. And Kenyans will watch and say put XYZs film he was with my sister last month I swear look here is a selfie. A few months later, the same stars came to Kenya this time for AMAA awards nominations night. As we went in at Ole Sereni, Nairobi, a guard asked for a selfie with a Kenyan actor. hawa watu wanasumbuanga actor retorted evading the guard. When the Naijas arrived they took selfies for long. When the event was midway the MC invited the Naija delegation on stage. Pandemonium ensued, as everyone in the hall rushed to snap photos with their cellphones, blocking even the media television crews. The Kenyan actor joined the rush to take photos too! The next day the Naija actors were in Mombasa slums, meeting and talking to people about their probs, motivating them, sharing how some of them lived in similar places but Na God helped me discover my talyent oh Days later, the Kenyan actor was showing off the photos while mourning. why do Kenyans adore Nigerians? Causing stampedes to photo them. If only Kenyans supported our locals instead of hating! Karugano gaakwa gaathirira hau give me some muratina I wet my throat and tell you another.
