Story of the Guardians Jersey Written By: Time It’s self Inspired by Mike Compton (famous rugby poet) And “The Cremation of Sam Magee” There are strange things done in a Guardian’s run By men who carry the ball; All front row males have their secret tales Of what really goes on in a mall; The Northern Lights have seen great sights, But the greatest they ever did see Was when all worries healed on Semiahmoo’s field That day the Guardian’s ran free. Now a Guardians game by no other name, is where a player rarely goes. Why men roam searching a Guardian’s home, God only knows. Players are bold, and always told, no Guardian will ever tell; We made our way here fighting the fear that “Playing a Guardian is hell.” On a wet cold day all others will say “can we not cancel this game”. Talk of the cold! Wearing a jersey of old, makes all weather seem tame. Orange and White hoops adorn our troops these jersey’s you will not mistake; It’s not much fun when you’re on the run and you’ve lost the will to partake. One very sad night, a thief out of site decided to pilfer the kit, The dogs were not fed, nothing was said but a killing would have been legit, The next morning arose he said ”Did I steel those?” as his pants started to smell; A curse fell upon him, and light started to dim “please Guardians my story do tell” Well, he seemed so low that we couldn’t say no; then he says with a sort of moan: “I was so close to the jersey, but so few are that worthy I was hoping you’d consider them on loan?” Yet that being said—it’s my awful dread this will not end well at all; So I want you to swear since I won’t be there, please Guardians play in the fall.” Now a promise made is a debt unpaid, so the jersey’s legend does glow. In the days to come, we are sure to add some, as the stories are starting to grow. When people gather in, bringing scotch beer and gin, and the Guardians, round in a ring, Howled before each game every players name and…—O God! What’s this Drambuie thing? There are strange things done in a Guardian’s run By men who carry the ball; All front row males have their secret tales Of what really goes on in a mall; The Northern Lights have seen great sights, But the greatest they ever did see Was when all wounds healed on Semiahmoo’s field That day the Guardian’s ran free.
