Story/rant of the day: so, basically what shouldve been just a nice compliment and left at that quickly went to the TOMFOOLERY level. Ive been asked a lot of dumb, racially insensitive and/or racially stereotypical questions enough times in my life to not be surprised or to take it seriously, really, but this took the cake: An acquaintance who I see once in awhile, nice guy, doesnt mean harm, we talk once in awhile, whatever, says: By the way, you really have a nice smile. I say: Aw, thanks. And you have really nice teeth! Okay... And then here comes the tomfoolery: How are your teeth so white? Is it because youre black? Like, Im not sure if its a a skin color contrast, a genetic thing, or if black people have better health insurance, but seriously, its so impressive. People, I cant make this shit up. Honestly, I thought he was joking, but he asked it so innocently, but I did say, Youre joking, right? And he looked at me as if he really had no idea what I meant. I mustve had the look because then he got nervous and said: Damn, I offended you, didnt I? Trying to keep a straight face and hold back from laughing, I said, Nope. And then he said, But...i just sounded really stupid, didnt I? And I said, You said it, not me. This is about as bad as the time I was asked: Why do black people like collard greens and neck bones? Is it because of slavery times? Why do black people wear a doo-rag like Aunt Jamima? Why do black people like big butts? Is it something to do with Africa? Okay, its a no brainer that these questions have a racist undertone in them, and perpetuate black stereotypes, even if there was no intention for them to sound that way. I dont mind asking questions pertaining to black people. As someone who has been black for a very long time, Ill do my best to keep it classy and answer the best I can, BUT...no, I wont knock you out (Ive only ever had to fight in self-defense twice in my life....words alone is not enough for me to go there...I might be short and petite and seem meek but trust, Im a fighter...), but if its a really dumb question, more than likely, you will know or figure it out before Ill say it first lol. These questions dont insult my intelligence, it only insults the person asking. All I ask to anyone here or anywhere is that if you must ask a question pertaining to race/skin color, my hair, teeth, diet, whatever, think before asking. Being comfortable with me doesnt give anyone license to do and say stupid things. Dont be like these fools, lol (nobody on here has, thankfully!). And please...just keep it intelligent and classy, its the best style I know. ;)
