Story regarding annexation, According to Hail Ridge Development spokesman Darryl Towers, the annexation and development of the Highway 87 corridor has a bright future. Towers presented some information during a public forum held Monday evening before the Boonville City Council meeting. The possible 311 acre development would be subdivided into residential, commercial and recreational areas. Towers said as Columbia expands in population some individuals will be searching for an alternative. He said Boonville is the only feasible option because it is the closest city on a major interstate that has all the infrastructure needed for a development of this nature. “Boonville has water, sewer, fire, police, schools, shopping and more,” Towers said. Towers told the audience in attendance one of the biggest drivers of the economic development of the region was the University of Missouri, which has 35,000 students. Towers explained his reasoning by comparing the Columbia area to other communities in his home state of Florida and the growth that occurred in those areas. He also said Columbia has almost doubled in size since 1990. If Columbia continues to grow at this rate, he said many people will moving to outlying communities. Towers said the development would include homes averaging in price of $250,000. “I firmly believe Boonville will become a commuter community,” Towers said. “You want to have a development that is attractive, one people want to live in.” The development will include different styles of homes with green space, which Towers believes is very important in getting individuals to move to Boonville. Furthermore, Towers said there is a signed letter of intent from an interested hotel chain that was signed right before Christmas. Towers said a lot of the development is contingent on annexation. He said there are many local and regional developers interested in the development. He also added, once developers are in place, they will be planning out the property in greater detail.
