Stranded Rissos Dolphin: Update. He is in critical but stable condition, receiving round-the-clock care at SeaWorld San Diego. This ~1 year old calf/juvenile has muscle damage, cannot swim on its own, has floats on to keep him at the surface and sunblock to prevent sunburn. They hope to nurse him back to health and release him back into the wild. NOTE: In this video, they keep calling this Rissos dolphin a very rare dolphin, since they have not seen many stranded animals off of San Diego. However, off San Pedro (where it stranded) and off of much of southern and central California, we would not call this a rare sighting at all. We are not seeing many Rissos dolphin right now, but we see them regularly every year; along with common dolphin (long-beaked and short-beaked), bottlenose dolphin, and Pacific white-sided dolphin, Rissos dolphin are considered to be among our most commonly encountered dolphin off of the Los Angeles area (since 1987). 760kfmb/story/27625299/dolphin-rescued-in-la-brought-to-seaworld-san-di
