Strange. I remember this happening. What I dont remember is being outraged then. Maybe it was because thats the kind of reaction gays expected then, when we were noticed at all. So we accepted such treatment as normal. Or maybe it was just too early in the plague--none of my friends had died yet, and there was only a vaguely felt undercurrent of fear running thru the community I knew. It was felt, but not heard, like sub-sonics in a movie before the horror begins. Reading it now, Im hoping Larry Speakes has had a visitation from the karma fairy, and his supercilious contempt for the powerless and the suffering has come home to haunt him. And oh, yeah: Id like to slap him. Hard. And on camera. In front of the nation. It probably wouldnt do any good at all. But it might make me feel better--at least until the karma fairy came back my way.
