Strange question here, I know, but do any of you BUY apples from the grocery store or even directly from the orchard? The past 2 years Ive noticed something really strange with apples I buy vs apples I get off friends trees. The ones I buy, whether from our local grocery store that sells almost exclusively local grown meat and produce or directly from the grower up in Washington state, there is a strange mold-like substance in the core. Beautiful apples, no bruises, no broken skin, no worm holes, but outlining the pieces of core is a thick, white line that looks like some kind of mold. Its not in the meat of the apple, the only way to see it is if you cut the apple. Any ideas what or why it is? Been in EVERY single apple weve bought for 2 years now.
