Strange things about the Nederlands. 1. You have to pay a deposit for a shopping cart atn the grocery store 2. You must bring your own bags, and you must bag the groceries yourself (Oh Publix how I miss you) 3. They take cash, or a DUTCH debit card only 4. All stores close at 6pm M-Th, Fri until 9p, Saturday 9-5, closed Sunday...Unless it is the 1st Sunday of the month and then they are open 5. You cannot deposit into your Dutch bank account from an ATM, unless it is an ATM inside the main branch, attached to a vault... 6. Almost no place accepts American credit cards, or debit cards. If you have the slide reader and not the chip, game over, go get some cash 7. You cannot get a mobile phone here if you do not have a Dutch credit card, your permanent green card, passport, BSN, blood type and a lot of cash 8. Trash is picked up on Thursday, well every other Thursday for rubbish and alternate with garden waste (who has garden waste in the Winter?) Hold that trash for 2 weeks! Oh but paper is picked up each Saturday. 9. Mail is delivered 3 times a day. 10. If you want better shopping they say to go to Belguim :)
