Streamstown Celtic A team travelled to TSDL Division 1 side Cullen/Lattin for round 3 of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday and came away with a monumental win. The home side were fancied by many to confirm South Tipps dominance over their North Tipp rivals. The game started at a ferocious pace and after only 3 minutes the Referee had to deal with a horrendous challenge from the Cullen/Lattin player on Paul Franks. It was reckless and the Referee had no option but to give a straight red card. This gave the away side a huge lift and they controlled the game for the first 15 mins. A last ditch tackle denied Paul Doyle from opening his account. Cullen/Lattin were working extremely hard with 10 men and began to grow into the game. Jason Ryan brilliantly saved a free kick and the home side continued to push for the opener with some neat football. Slightly against the run of play however Streamstown took the lead on 36 minutes, a long ball superbly flicked on by the dangerous Doyle set Shane Moloney through on goal and he made no mistake with an emphatic finish giving the keeper no chance. Streamstown kept it tight for the next 10 mins to go in 1-0 up at half time. Cullen/Lattin came out strong again to start the second half but even though it looked good up to a point the defence of Paul Franks, Ray McNicholas, Shabby Loughnane and Darren Wrenn were in control of matters along with the cool Jason Ryan in goal. Paul Franks had to leave with a hamstring problem and was replaced by the versatile Jason Moloney. The Roscrea side were very dangerous on the break and should have doubled their lead. Shane Moloney was causing havoc down the left in tandem with Darren Wrenn. Wally Kirwan missed a guilt edged chance and the keeper prevented Shane Moloney from making it 2-0 but luckily the away side would not be made to pay. Ray McNicholas gave an exhibition alongside Shabby at centre back and Jason Moloney made some vital interceptions while Ray was receiving treatment for a bloody nose. Craig Phelan, Craig Byrne, Dippy Murphy and later Wally Kirwan were working hard to keep the defence solid. Streamstown would eventually double their lead on 86 mins, Craig Buddy Byrne fed the ball wide to Darren Wrenn who whipped in an excellent left footed cross which found Paul Doyle who got there before the keeper and neatly slotted home to send the away supporters wild. There was still time for the Cullen/Lattin keeper to make a brilliant save in the closing moments from Paul Doyle, a superb effort from the corner of the box was just touched around the post. Full time score 2-0 and Streamstown march on to Round 4 where they will host TSDL Premier side Peake Villa in Fanure. Well done to everybody on a famous day for the club and even with a few players missing it shows the strength of this tight panel. Thanks to our dedicated supporters for making the long journey.....now lets keep the run going!!
