Strength and conditioning for fast bowling, is it - TopicsExpress

Strength and conditioning for fast bowling, is it important? Peter Siddle seems to think so! Read here: theage.au/sport/cricket/peter-siddle-puts-meat-on-his-bones-not-his-diet-in-bid-for-pace-20140730-zyges.html You need muscle to build your engine capacity. Then develop your strength by lifting heavy. You will innervate a greater percentage of your muscle. Train explosively to maximise your power production in short time periods. I believe you can train all these qualities together. Siddle mentions the importance of developing glute strength. The glutes are very important in running, jumping, and stability. Strong glutes will help you get through the crease quicker, and assist with a balanced position. You can develop them by doing hip thrusts, kettlebell swings, barbell step-ups (box higher than the knee), lunges, deep squats, single leg deadlifts. But you must consciously contract your buttocks otherwise you will not derive the benefits! Take home message... lift powerfully throughout the year. If you stop, because you want to be 100% for the game on Saturday, expect to become slower throughout the season! Dont lift until you are sore, just do enough to maintain your strength and power. The only games you want to be fresh for however, are the finals! Bowlstrong - Building Faster Bowlers
