Stretch reflex is a consideration when trying to throw farther. I - TopicsExpress

Stretch reflex is a consideration when trying to throw farther. I believe its defined like this: Strength/weight over maximum distance in less time produces the most power .. I see the the rotational technique as the longer pathway of the shot in less time . This pathway is a way to stretch out the length of the of transition and adding speed to subtract total time . If the corners are cut to further enhance the loss of time the athlete is eliminating distance and position is modified resulting in less than desired results(distance). Conformation and position are a big part mechanics needed to provide the structural significance to accelerate your weight and the speed of the shot at release. The other elements needed at release are angle and height . These elements are to be considered from the beginning stance or starting position and enhanced throughout the entire transition. Each twist of the feet , each pivot , each step is part of the stretching out the throw and has a duel purpose of acceleration . The drive phase out of the back of the circle comes from a half turn around a pivoting left post . This post has a bent knee and straight back . The weight is on the left pivoting foot/ toes , shoulders are back and the belly button is over the big toe of the left foot . The chest is out and the eyes are level looking out into the sector and you are in the South African position . Many athletes lift the right leg way to high or sweep it to wide leaning into the circle and out of the lineal position that compliments the drive by lunging down to the middle of the circle. Its important to remember youre loading up your legs by getting lower & pulling that bungee cord into the second rotation . A little trick here by nipping a few degrees off the full 360 degree pivot of the right foot insures a complete pivot and not a under rotation. This pivoting plyometric sets up torque and starts with a pre turned ankle .Youre on the the toes of the right foot the knee is bent & soon will climb stretching that cord vertically. The torque / separation will now be the supporting the shot; the feet , knees drift shifting your weight to the left foot at the toe board similar to hitting a baseball or golf ball .Thus completing the horizontal drive down to the front of the circle. Another important aspect is slow to fast Instead of sweeping or jumping into position you are driving into position . This allows you to come out of the rotation faster than you entered adding power to the lift phase. This is all continuous and directed through a point of release. I talk about wiggle room being a demonizing element to your technique. The smoother the farther. Line up your skeleton and accelerate the shot as if you were pulling and stretching a bungee cord make the concrete buckle under your feet and drive . pivot & lift through the hole in the sky.
