Strike action is the last resort in any civilized industrial dispute. When the government continuously pushes the workers to the wall by reneging on one promise after the other, workers have no choice but to resort to strike action. In the case of ASUU, this hurts poor students and their parents most because the rich have already airlifted their children to prestigious institutions of higher learning abroad, including, ironically, neighbouring poorer African countries. I am not sure the strike by polytechnic staff has been called off. With ASUU handing down intellectual tools, it is high time the Minister for Education told Nigerians what she knew about these incessant strike actions.
