Striker Bojan Krkic has stated that he is happy at Stoke City, and has adapted to the Premier League after the move away from Barcelona last summer. After several loan spells in different European clubs, Bojan returned to Barcelona last summer, only to sign for Stoke soon after his return. In an interview with Marca, the forward explained why he chose Stoke. “There were two determining factors that really attracted me: playing in the Premier League and the fact that Mark Hughes, who already tried to sign me when he was in charge at City, showed so much interest”, Bojan stated. The start of the season, however, wasn’t easy for Bojan who found himself on the bench during the first month in the new club. “The team wasn’t playing well; the style of play didn’t fit my qualities and that’s why I wasn’t taking part. It’s not easy when you arrive at a club and then you don’t play. But there’s nothing else you can do other than to train, keep improving and work hard so you’re ready when the gaffer gives you the nod.” The good performances with Stoke have already evoked speculation about Bojan’s future, but the Spanish international assured that he doesn’t pay attention to the rumors. “I stay out of it. I try not to listen to anyone or read anything. That’s football.” Bojan then went on to explain the reasons behind his adaptation to the Premier League, stating that spending more time at the gym has helped him, and the role of a second striker makes him feel comfortable. “Physically, I’m feeling much better. The staff at Stoke are helping me reach that level of strength you need to play in the Premiership. “That [playing as a second striker] is my ideal position. I feel at ease and I have a lot of freedom. I’ve played in central positions all my life. I haven’t been the typical static centre-forward. I’ve always said that when my manager has faith in me and I’m playing in my position, that’s when I perform best.” Finally, Bojan wanted to stress that despite breaking all goal-scoring records in Barcelona’s youth teams, he’s not all about goals. “I want to put an end to the idea that Bojan absolutely has to score goals. It’s a public perception that’s not up to me. Youth football is a different story. It’s goal after goal after goal.” (Marc)
