Struggling to even look at news reports anymore. Seeing kids (the same age as my own) killed while playing on swings in the backyards of refugee camps after being evacuated from their own homes...its too much. As an aspiring peacemaker, my soul is weary...I can only imagine how my friends feel who are working for peace embedded in the middle of this conflict. Today, Im having to lean even deeper into the life and words of the 1st century Palestinian Rabbi and Peacemaker, Jesus. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted...Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons and daughters of God...if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift...You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles...You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
