Strunk, Meyer, Griffith, Kaplan, Roe and Leeman Winners on Tolle Automotive Night at the Hamilton County Speedway By: Jeremy Fox Tolle Automotive of Webster City presented night number eight at the historic Hamilton County Speedway Saturday Night. Stock Cars also featured a King of the Hill and the fans were treated to some great racing for the top spots all night long. Like last week but this week it was the Stock Cars running a King of the Hill. Drivers in the Stock Cars class battled it out with two car grudge matches. The final four included Mark Elliott, Lance Deal, Jason Vansickel and Jim Mitchell. Vansickel beat Mitchell in the semifinals meanwhile Elliott and Deal battled it out both cars cutting a tire down with Elliott getting the tire fixed and had to face off with Vansickel in the final. Vansickel pocket the extra money for winning the King of the Hill. First feature of the night was the Oberhelman Trucking IMCA Sport Compacts feature. Adam Strunk grabbed the lead but had to deal with Dustin Haggard the entire distance. Strunk went on to take win second win of the season. Strunk was followed by Haggard, Kalan Guthrie, Danny Sassman Jr. and Hunter Benson. The next feature on the speedway was the Chalfant Plumbing Stock Car division. Dennis Plain grabbed the lead on lap one but it was Adam Silvey grabbing the lead away on lap two. Silvey lead until Vansickel took the lead on lap five. Vansickel’s lead was short lived as Steve Meyer worked his way from the eighth place to the lead on lap seven. Meyer cruised on to the win with Vansickel finishing 2nd. Mark Elliott, Lance Deal and Jim Mitchell rounded the top 5. Motor Inn of Webster City IMCA Late Models feature saw the yellow wave when Carey Umbarger broke and got into the wall in turn 2. When the race finally got started it was Ryan Griffith grabbing the lead. Griffith didn’t look back as he went on to take win number two. Darrel DeFrance grab runner up honors and Jeremy Grady was third. Jason Hahne and Curt Schroeder finish fourth and fifth respectively. The George White Chevrolet Modified feature saw last week’s feature winner Devin Havlik grab early lead but Havlik hit a tire and that allowed Beau Kaplan to sneak by. Kaplan began to pull away meanwhile Mark Elliott was working his way through the field. Havlik fell back to third. Bill Crimmins and Greg Elliott rounded out the top five. The Casady Brothers Implement Inc. IMCA Hobby Stock feature came down to the wire between Cory Roe and Ty Griffith for the second week in a row. Roger Haupt lead the first three laps before the caution waved. Griffith grabbed the lead on the restart, Griffith lead through a red flag for darkness as turns 1 and 2 and backstretch had no lights. then two late race cautions on lap 11 and 13. Griffth and Roe battled it out the last two laps including the final lap, both racing hard for the win made contact in turn 2 kept going and battle it out to the checkers. Roe grabbed the win over Griffith at the line, it was Roe’s first at Hamilton County this season. Griffith came across in second but refused post-race tech inspection so that gave second to Randy Embrey. Daniel Ayers, Nate Bonin and Allen Dixon rounded out the top 5. The final race of the night was Conley’s Trucking Inc. IMCA Sportmod feature and last week’s feature winner Jared VanDeest grabbed the lead. VanDeeest experience some troubles that handed the lead over to Brandon Leeman on lap four. Leeman was slowed a few times by the caution on lap five and two cautions on lap ten. Leeman made sure he was going to be the first to cross the line to grab the win as he got great restarts. Matt Lettow worked his way from tenth to second. Aaron Benson was third, Ben Kates was fourth and Carter VanDenBerg was fifth. The Historic Half Mile in Webster City begins a very action back month of July next Saturday Night with $5 Fan Appreciation Night thanks to Hy-Vee of Webster City. Hot Laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing to follow. We hope to see everyone back next Saturday night at the Hamilton County Speedway.
