Stuart Agnew, UKIP MEP, speaks about the ways we could help the dairy industry if we were outside the European Union: In summary, the milk package does not seem to have had a significant impact so far. [ ... ] Lets just look at what we might be able to do in the UK. We could alter the remit of the competition commission to allow our coops to become big enough to eyeball the supermarkets, at the moment we cant. What about a futures market, ..., actually a futures market is a very good way of managing volitility, ..., that is something that should be looked at. It has worked in cereals. What about the regulatory burden that the EU puts on Dairy Farmers with the NVZs, this nonsense about white asbestos cement being toxic, not allowing the burial of animals, and the whole treatment of waste, it is expensive. The EU energy policy is SO expensive, its not just on the Dairy Farm, but those who supply the Dairy Farm. These are the ways we could help the dairy industry if we were outside the European Union.
