Stuart, I suggest we proceed in the following manner about this matter of objective truth. First, please tell me if you believe there is such a thing as objective truth. If you believe there is, please give me a definition of it, and Ill give you my definition of it. Well then do a comparative analysis of the two definitions. Stuart, it seems to me that I subscribe to a different philosophical view of reality/truth than you do. That does not necessarily entail that my view is intellectually inferior to yours, nor does it necessarily entail the contrary. Dont, therefore, make the mistake of rating me on the basis of the philosophical theories to which I subscribe if they happen to differ from yours. Stuart, I subscribe to the philosophical doctrine of Objectivism, the doctrine that reality/truth is objective or external to the mind, the theory that knowledge, morals, etc. are based on external reality, as distinct from subjective existence, the view that human knowledge is universally valid. Correct me if Im wrong, Stuart, but it seems to me that you subscribe to the philosophical theory of Subjectivism, or Solipsism. Solipsism is the philosophical theory that the self is the only thing that really exists, and that, therefore, reality/truth is subjective. Subjectivism is the philosophical doctrine that knowledge is merely subjective and relative and that it is derived from ones consciousness. It pertains to the theory that we know directly no external sources, and that there is no objective standard, test, or measurement of truth. It also posits that individual feeling is the standard by which to discriminate between right and wrong. Does that accurately reflect your position, Stuart? If youd care to debate this matter, Stuart, proceed. All of the best to you.
