Stuart Oliver wins the first Tata Motors T1 Prima Championship Updated on 24 Mar 2014 11:14 IST | By Sourabh Sharma British racer Stuart Oliver, became the first winner of the Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship at Buddh International Circuit. In association with the British Truck Racing Association, 6 teams with 12 Prima truck participated in the event of two rounds. The first race was the 5-lap qualifier while the second race was the main race of 15-lap. The finally standing of drivers was calculated by combining the points of both the races while the Team Championship was awarded by summing up the scores of the drivers of the same team. The race took place on the newly developed 2.1 km loop at the Buddh Circuit. Stuart Oliver, driving for the Castrol Vecton team won both the races and remained on top while his team took the Championship title. Dave Jenkins of team Tata Technologies, followed him and stood second. Right from the word go, Oliver maintained a gap which lead him to victory over the nearest competitors by the gap of 4.674 seconds. On winning the inaugural race Oliver said, “It was an amazing experience. The track is beautiful and trucks were performing great. I am thrilled to have won the first ever Truck racing championship in India, among the enthusiastic crowd who were cheering each time we drove past the grand stand. I see a lot of potential of this sport here and would love to come back and race again.” The six teams participating in the race with drivers were: Team Castrol Vecton with drivers Stuart Oliver and Dave Ball, Team Tata Technologies Motor Sports with drivers David Jenkins and Brian Burt, Team Allied Partners with drivers Paul McCumisky and Steve Rothery, Team Dealer Warriors with Ben Horne and Steven Powell, Team Dealer Daredevils with Steve Thomas and Graham Powell and Team Cummins with Mat Summerfield and Simon Reid.
