Stuck for something to do this coming Thursday? Then how about joining our very own Swanage Town Crier, Andrew Fleming, at a WILLIAM BARNES SUPPER next Thursday, 13th June at All Saints Church Hall, 7 for a 7:30pm start. William Barnes (1801-86) is regarded as Dorset & England’s finest dialect poet but largely forgotten for the last 100 years – Andrew and his friends are looking to revive interest in his work. He wrote in a gentle manner of country life in the early 1800 about his native Dorset and the supper evening will reflect this with supplies from Purbeck Produce. This is the mouth-watering menu: Local Vegetable Soup, Corfe Venison & Rabbit Pasties, Dorset Apple Cake & Purbeck Ice Cream, Purbeck Cider & a WHOLE Blue Viney Cheese! The main speaker will be Reg Saville of Langton Matravers. Also Bill Trite, Chairman of Purbeck District Council, will say a few words. And Swanage Town Crier Andrew Fleming will give the shout about William Barnes that won him the South of England Town Crier Championship 2013!! All of this will be accompanied by music of that era from Robin Plowman. All proceeds will go to Christian Aid and the Fresh Prospects garden project. Tickets available from Andrew Fleming, 422479 or [email protected]. First come - first served!
