Student Minds - St Andrews are putting together a program of films as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival, and are currently looking for postgraduates who would be interested in selecting and introducing a few of their films. mhfestival/about They are asking for a choice of film (there are guide-lines below), and a short introduction on the day of the screening (lasting up to 15 minutes). The screening will be followed by a discussion prompted by the issues raised in the film- although of course you do not have to stay for this. Criteria: The selected film must be broadly based around mental health and well-being, and if possible around the concept of power- the selected theme for this years festival. To give the program slightly more structure we are looking for (but not limited to): 1 popular film which examines a mental illness, or issues surrounding mental health · Examples which would be appropriate include: A Beautiful Mind (Ron Howard, 2001), Black Swan(Darren Aronofsky, 2010), or even One flew over the Cukoos Nest. (Miloš Forman, 1975) 1 film which is less likely to have been seen by audiences- and is likely to stimulate discussion. · Examples which would be appropriate include: Melancholia (Von Trier, 2011), The Fisher King (Terry Gilliam,1991), Adaption (Spike Jonze, 2002) and finally, 1 documentary to close the festival, again something which lends itself to discussion would be ideal. · Examples which would be appropriate include: Thin (Lauren Greenfield, 2006), Let there be light (John Huston, 1946) and Happy (Roko Belic ,2011), If you are interested, or have any further queries- please do not hesitate to e-mail [email protected]
