Student Switches Places to Become “Principal for a Day”: Dacen Roberson is known as a leader on his football team at Westlawn Middle, and he had a chance to put those skills to use as “Principal for a Day” at school last week. He spent time monitoring the hallways, assisted with classroom monitoring, and delivered messages to teachers from the office. Roberson was selected to be “Principal” by winning a literacy competition where students demonstrated using “magnet summaries”, a method to help individuals see the important concepts in a large quantity of information. Nicole Johnson, a literacy coach at Westlawn, wasn’t surprised to see Dacen take over as principal; she remembered him from years ago when she was his first grade teacher, and always saw his potential. Dacen says he may even pursue a career in education and become a principal one day.
