Student Tech Tip Tuesday: How to update your SHS iPad to iOS 8 Before you get started: Make sure your Notability App is backing up to iCloud. See email posted October Before you make any updates, backup your SHS iPad to iCloud. See the email posted on October 10 about backing up to iCloud. Make sure your SHS iPad has enough available space to install the update. Tap Settings > General > Usage to see how much space your content uses. If you dont have enough, or remove content from your SHS iPad. Make sure you are signed into iCloud and the App Store with your SHS Apple ID. PLUG your SHS iPad into a power source, preferably to an outlet and not a computer. Connect to a Wireless network. Update your device wirelessly The easiest way to update your device is wirelessly, also called “over the air.” Here’s how: Plug in your device to a power source. Tap Settings > General > Software Update. Tap Download and Install to download the update. Updates might download automatically while your device is connected to Wi-Fi and a power source. Tap Install when the download completes. If your device is passcode enabled, it will ask you to enter the passcode before installing the update. Make sure to Enable Location Services. Agree to the Terms and Conditions. You may have to enter your SHS Apple ID password. Select Use iCloud, NOT iCloud Drive. Post Update: 1. Look for all your school files/data. If you are missing data, you may have to restore to your back up BEFORE the update. Visit the SMARTdesk to help you. 2. Run all App Updates. They are needed since you updated to iOS 8. 3. Make sure that your Notability App is backing up to iCloud, you will have to manually set this setting. See email posted on October 7.
