Student bodies, other orgs appeal for calm On the other hand, a joint team of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), North East Students’ Organization (NESO), All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU), All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) and All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union (AKKDSU) today visited the affected area to study the ground realities over there. The team led by AAPSU president Kamta Lapung appealed to the people of both states not to panic but to maintain peace and tranquility, besides requesting them to maintain status- quo as directed by the Supreme Court of India in the year 2004. The organizations held the Congress-led governments at both Centre and in two states responsible for the unfortunate incident as well as for not finding any solution to the protracted boundary dispute over the years. Condemning the state government for not sending sufficient security forces to maintain law and order situation in the border area whereas the prevailing situation is hypersensitive in both sides of the border, AAPSU demanded immediate deployment of adequate para-military forces, atleast 100 personnel, within 24 hours to provide safety and security to the people living in the boundary areas. The apex students’ body also appealed to Assam brethrens not to take any extreme steps like imposing economic blockade or calling bandh. Under the banner of NESO, AAPSU and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will be conducting an emergency meeting to bring normalcy in both the states. Lastly, the apex students’ organization strongly urged the State government to streamline its Border Affairs Department at the earliest. The AAPSU while furnishing the aforesaid demands threatened to resort to democratic agitation provided the state government fails to fulfill their charter of demands.
