Student inventions to improve the lives of people with disabilities are on display this week in Toronto at a conference on innovation. Some of the finalists are: Ami-Go, a phone app that works through a wristband that vibrates when a blind person’s friend is nearby — and directs them to where they are. Waterproof headphones that beep when a swimmer with poor eyesight approaches the edge of the pool. A portable outhouse that expands to four times the normal size to make room for a wheelchair, stroller, even a caregiver — then folds back down when the sporting event or festival is done.
