Student this morning: Ive told my senior tutor that I dont have enough confidence to write tutorial essays, and shes said that is all right and that I dont have to. Sensing this was not going down very well, he offered a compromise: perhaps later in the term I could just write some practice exam essays. It didnt sound at all right, but left me rather on the back foot. Fortunately, a quick email exchange reaffirmed my own confidence in the sanity of my colleagues, and revealed the student in question to be, at best, an unreliable narrator, and, at worst, a lazy, lying, toad. Im giving him the benefit of the doubt for a week.
