Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) young lady at UC San - TopicsExpress

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) young lady at UC San Diego: I think the problem is that the land should’t be divided. Why does there have to be an Israeli side and a Palestinian side? Me: The Jewish people needed a state of their own; where they could live in peace. Young lady: But they stole someone elses land. Me: No. They did not. The Jewish people have had a continuous presence in their historic homeland. Both Jews and Arabs lived in the region, but it was never a Palestinian state. Young lady: But people should be able to move between each region freely. Me: Every nation has borders, and must have a means of protecting their people within them. Young lady (with a sense of disgust): But why does it have to be called, Israel? Her question was honest and heartfelt - and antisemitic. All her life she’s been told that “Israel” is evil. In searching for truth, she will confront an implanted hatred for the Jewish people, and challenge herself to let it go. Then she’ll know peace, and can truly help her own people.
