Students in Mrs. Mullins’ 5th grade language arts class at Maple - TopicsExpress

Students in Mrs. Mullins’ 5th grade language arts class at Maple Leaf Elementary were working on creative personal narrative pieces and to enhance this writing assignment, students designed and created individual gingerbread houses utilizing reused milk cartons and items generously donated by their families. This was an interdisciplinary lesson as students used math skills to estimate items, measure surface area of the cartons and multiply items. Students incorporated science in recognizing the wise use of resources and used problem solving skills. In Language Arts students wrote creative personal narratives and they read these aloud to their peers to assist with fluency and oral reading skills.
