Study: Genetic Damage in Soybean Workers Exposed to Pesticides. Brazil is now the worlds second largest producer and exporter of GMO soybean, and synthetic pesticide use has skyrocketed since the early 1990s. Highlights of the study: ► Genotoxic and mutagenic effect of pesticides were observed in soybean farm workers. ► Cell death in blood cells was elevated in soybean workers exposed to pesticides. ► Inorganic elements were higher in cells from soybean farm workers than non-exposed group. “The risks to human health that may be associated with chronic exposure to pesticides should be addressed in more detail. The effects of long-term exposure to low doses of pesticides are often difficult to assess, since associated signs and symptoms may not manifest clinically. Pesticides and fertilizers are extensively used in agriculture; formulations, combinations, and interactions between chemical compounds and multiple exposures are a rule, not an exception, in agricultural practice. Different formulations are often used simultaneously in complex mixtures, including a significant number of genotoxic compounds. Thus, information about toxicity of pesticides may not be sufficient to evaluate risk of adverse health effects.” READ: gmoevidence/dr-benedetti-soybean-workers-suffer-… STUDY PDF here: gmofreeusa.org/…/2013_01_Elsevier_GeneticDamageI… #Brazil #SoybeanWorkers #GMO #soybeans #soy #roundup #glyphosate #24d #pesticides #GeneticDamage #Benedetti #boycottroundup #boycottgmos #bangmos #gmofreecanada #gmofreeusa
